Rita P. Magalhães, PhD student at BioSIM, received the award for 3rd best poster at the Machine Learning in Quantum Physics and Chemistry Summer School (August 24th to September 3rd ), organized by the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw, Poland. The award, in the value of 250 £, was attributed by the journal “Machine Leaning Science and Technology”.
The work, entitled “Development of a Classification Model for the Identification of Targets to Known P.aeruginosa Biofilm Formation Inhibitors”, developed under the supervision of Sérgio F. Sousa (BioSIM) and João Carneiro (CIIMAR) constitutes an example of how machine learning algorithms can be employed to improve the drug design pipeline and fight biofilm infections more efficiently.
