BioSIM welcomes a new visiting PhD student, Cláudia Novais, from the PhD Program in Pharmacy and Health from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Salamaca (Spain).
Cláudia Novais has a BSc degree in Biology and Biotechnology from Instituto Politécnico de Bragança and a MSc in Pharmacy and Chemistry of Natural Products, from Instituto Politécnico de Bragança and the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Salamanca (Spain).
Cláudia is currently a PhD student in Pharmacy and Health at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Salamaca (Spain) and a FCT scholarship holder. She is performing most of her laboratory research work at the Centro de Investigação de Montanha (CIMO), in the Sustainable Processes and Products group, in which she has also been involved as a researcher in a project of optimization of industrial processes for the application of edible coatings for post-harvest conservation of chestnut (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-049276).
Cláudia’s PhD project is targeted at small natural molecules, colorants and preservatives, with the aim of trying to produce a unique bio-based dual capacity molecule, through computational and laboratory studies, under the guidance of Dr. Carla Pereira (Centro de Investigação de Montanha), Prof. Dr. Rui Abreu (Instituto Politécnico de Bragança) and Prof. Dr. Celestino Santos-Buelga (University of Salamanca).
Her mobility period at BioSIM will involve the application of molecular dynamics simulations studies into this problem.
