PhD Student
Vanda Peixoto graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Porto in 2007 and took her master’s degree in Biochemical Technology in Health at School of Health of Polytechnic Institute of Porto in 2012. Currently, she is a PhD student in Advanced Biotechnology at Vigo University/School of Health of Polytechnic Institute of Porto.
Peixoto’s PhD project is entitled “Epidemiological, Molecular and Biochemical aspects of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria”. New insights of this rare disease, including pathophysiology, symptoms, clonal evolution, gene mutation, genetic polymorphisms, case reports, adverse effects to treatment, resistance to treatments and new treatments are being studied, with supervision of Prof. Mónica Vieira of the School of Health at IPP. The computational studies are being developed at BioSIM, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, under the supervision of Prof. Sérgio Sousa. The focus of the bioinformatic study is molecular interaction dynamics between monoclonal antibody used in this disease treatment, and its biological target.
