PhD Student

Juliana F. Rocha was a PhD student of the Biomedicine PhD program (Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto), following an M.Sc. in Medicinal Chemistry (UMinho) and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry (UMinho).

Her PhD project was developed at BioSIM under the supervision of Nuno Cerqueira and Sérgio F. Sousa and involved the use of QM/MM methods to study the catalytic mechanism of PLP-dependent enzymes with potential use as biocatalysts on the pharmaceutical industry. She worked to uncover the secrets of the catalytic mechanisms of enzymes and improve their catalytic power. Moreover, she was also involved in the study of organic chemistry reactions.
