PhD Student

Having graduated in the University of Porto in 2018, Gabriel obtained his Masters degree in Biochemistry from the same university in 2020, focusing on tackling the emerging infections caused by Mycobacterium avium using antimicrobial peptides as new alternatives to the currently used antibiotics. Afterwards, he undertook an ERASMUS+ internship at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain.

He is now a student of the BiotechHealth PhD programme in ICBAS and he is doing his research work at both i3S and UCIBIO under the supervision of Tânia Silva, Sérgio Sousa and Salomé Gomes. His PhD project is based on the discovery of new antimycobacterial peptides active against both M. avium and M. abscessus using newly built QSAR models.
