From 11 to 13 March, PhD student Airam Roggero participated in the ATLIC (Atlantic InnoBlue Communities) event held in the Azores in partnership with the University of the Azores and Jam Creative International. The event brought together young people from across Europe to explore new business ideas in an Atlantic context, promoting innovation and the sustainable use of water resources.
As a long-time supporter of the Ethnobotany project at the Vila do Conde Professional School (EPVC), Airam Roggero has played a key role in the development of Maré Verde, integrating it into her doctoral research.

The Maré Verde project, a pioneering initiative in the valorisation of natural resources and sustainable practices, was the focus of the event. The project stood out for its innovation and commitment to the Blue Economy, in particular through advances in the use of sea fennel, a plant with therapeutic potential. Research findings and sustainably developed products based on sea fennel were presented, demonstrating the scientific and environmental contributions of the project.
Maré Verde was represented by Airam Roggero and students Ana Guia, Isabelle Euclides and Joana Cunha from the Sociocultural Animator course at EPVC, under the guidance of Professor Amauri Alves. Together they brought a creative and sustainable approach, sharing the project’s impact on local communities and reinforcing its educational and environmental mission.

Under the theme “Navigating the Blue Economy: Young People Protecting and Innovating Water Resources”, the International Creative Jam in the Azores included hands-on workshops, mentoring sessions and team challenges. Guided by international experts, participants developed solutions to key environmental and economic challenges, culminating in the presentation of innovative ideas to a panel of experts.
The participation of PhD student Airam Roggero and EPVC students in the ATLIC event reinforces Maré Verde’s commitment to sustainability and the valorization of natural resources, contributing to the development of ecological and innovative solutions in the Blue Economy.
