3 PhD Students of BioSIM Present Research at the XXII National Congress of Biochemistry, Aveiro

The XXII National Congress of Biochemistry, themed “Next-Gen Biochemical Challenges Across Borders,”welcomed students from BioSIM this year, including PhD candidates Fábio Martins, Duangnapa Kiriwan, and Airam Roggero. Held at the University of Aveiro in Portugal from October 24th to 26th, 2024, this congress serves as a central meeting point for the Portuguese Biochemistry Academy. Facilitated by the Portuguese Society for Biochemistry (SPB), a member of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), the event fosters dialogue and collaboration, propelling forward both fundamental and applied biochemical research.

Throughout the three-day congress, participants engaged in discussions of scientific advancements and innovation. The BioSIM students contributed to this exploration with their own cutting-edge research:

Duangnapa Kiriwan presented an oral communication entitled “Tripeptide-Based Inhibition of EGFR Tyrosine Kinase in Lung Cancer: Findings from Computational and Experimental Studies.” Her work focuses on targeting the EGFR enzyme, providing insights that could lead to novel therapeutic strategies in oncology.

Fábio Martins presented an oral presentation with the title “Development of a Computational Protocol for the Rational Design of Nanomedicines Aimed at Cardiovascular Diseases,” introducing an advanced protocol to aid in designing effective, targeted treatments for cardiovascular conditions using nanomedicine.

Airam Roggero presented her research in a poster format titled “From Sustainability to Green Engineering: A Puzzle for Classrooms,” which bridges concepts of sustainable practices and green engineering, aiming to enhance educational approaches in biochemistry.

These contributions highlight the commitment of BioSIM students to addressing pressing challenges in biochemistry through computational and experimental research, underscoring their role in advancing the field.
