Many Congratulations to our New 4 Ph.D. Students Airam Roggero, João Boazinha, Mariana Sousa, and João Silva who were awarded funding from FCT to pursue their studies at BioSIM for the next four years under the supervision or co-supervision of Sérgio F. Sousa (BioSIM).
Airam’s work will focus on the analysis of the effects of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on membrane fluidity, with the supervision of Sérgio F. Sousa and the co-supervision of Prof. Marcus Toyama (FAPESP, Brazil).
João Boazinha’s thesis will be dedicated to the Development of In Silico Simulation Protocols for Selective Inhibition of Voltage-Gate Sodium Channels, and will be done with the supervision of Sérgio F. Sousa in collaboration with BIAL (Co-supervisor Nuno Cerqueira) and CIIMAR (co-supervisor João Carneiro).
Mariana Sousa thesis will focus on Biofilm control in healthcare settings with phytochemical-based disinfectants and will be developed with the supervision of Manuel Simões (FEUP) and the co-supervision of Anabela Borges (FEUP) and Sérgio F. Sousa(BioSIM).
João Silva’s project is focused on the discovery of novel prostate cancer therapeutic approaches, targeting the inhibition of the STEAP family of membrane proteins and will be developed under the supervision of Luís Passarinha (UCIBIO/BTP), and co-supervision of Ângela Sousa (CICS-UBI) and Sérgio Sousa (FMUP/BioSIM).
We wish you all the best for this new challenge!
